Tourism is the Maldives largest industry, and accounts for 20% of the GDP and more than 60% of the Maldives foreign exchange receipts. Bringing about $ 198 million each year, tourisms and related services contributed to 31% of GDP in 2002. The average occupancy rate is69% with the average tourists staying 8 days and spending about $396. |
The Maldives economy is increasing at an average rate of aver 10% since the last two to three decades. Tourism accounts for approximately 20% of the GDP, being the largest industry of Maldives. Fisheries is the second leading sector and shipping industry being the third, follow close behind. The economy of Maldives is mainly based on three industries, Tourism, Fishing and shipping. |
